Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn't a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.

Web poker has become globally celebrated as of late, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game events. Its universal appeal, though, arcs back quite a bit farther than its television ratings. Over the years numerous types on the first poker game have been developed, including a handful of games that are not quite poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these particular games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with twenty-one than old guard poker, in that the gamblers wager against the bank rather than each other. The winning hands, are the established poker hands. There is no bluffing or different types of concealment. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up before the dealer announcing "No more bets." At that instance, both you and the bank and of course all of the different gamblers receive five cards each. After you have seen your hand and the casino's initial card, you need to in turn make a call wager or give up. The call bet's amount is on same level to your beginning bet, meaning that the risks will have doubled. Abandoning means that your ante goes immediately to the bank. After the wager is the face off. If the house doesn't have ace/king or better, your wager is given back, plus an amount on par with the ante. If the bank has a hand with ace/king or better, you succeed if your hand defeats the bank's hand. The house pays chips even with your initial bet and set expectations on your call bet. These odds are:

• Equal for a pair or high card
• two to one for two pairs
• 3-1 for 3 of a kind
• four to one for a straight
• 5-1 for a flush
• 7-1 for a full house
• 20-1 for a four of a kind
• 50-1 for a straight flush
• one hundred to one for a royal flush

Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel's full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can't buy in for the total amt.. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It's a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi low starts just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some entrants get confused. Contrasted to Texas Hold 'Em, in which the board can make up everyone's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It's the strongest possible hand out of every player's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It's the same approach in nearly all poker games.

A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don't count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there's no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at first, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of play with ease. Since you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting collection of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, along with a few trying for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to play Omaha/8.
