Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the adverse comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
