Everyone who participates in Texas Holdem knows that a-k is one of the greatest opening hands. But, it's just that, a beginning hand. It is just 2 cards of a 7-card equation. In nearly every situation, you will want to come out firing with Ace-King as your pocket cards. When the flop arrives, you have to reassess your hand and think things completely before you just presume your cards are the greatest.

Like many other circumstances in holdem, understanding your competitors will help you gauge your position when you have Ace-King and see a flop like nine-eight-two. Since you wager preflop and were called, you presume your competitor is also possessing good cards and the flop might have by-passed them as poorly as it missed you. Your assuming will often times be precise. Also, do not omit that most poor gamblers would not know good cards if they tripped over them and could have called with Ace-Something and paired the board.

If your competitors checks, you could check and see a free card or place a wager and attempt to grab the pot up right there. If they wager, you could raise to see if they're for real or fold. What you want to avert is basically calling your competitor's wager to observe what the turn results in. If any card other than and Ace or King is shown, you won't have any more information than you did after the flop. So let's say the turn brings a 4 and your opponent wagers yet again, what do you do? To call a bet on the flop you had to think your hand was the greatest, so you must truly believe it remains so. So, you call a wager on the turn and one more on the river to figure out that your opponent has a hand of ten-eight and only had second pair following the flop. At that instance, it hits you that a raise after the flop might have won the money right there.

Ace-King is a beautiful thing to see in your hole cards. Just be certain you compete in them carefully and they'll bring you amazing happiness at the poker table.
