Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Negreanu's full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While gambling on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can't buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes Omaha and texas hold'em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
