Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with quads against Daniel's full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can't buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won't have heard of before. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha hold'em and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player.
