Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
