Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
