Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
