Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu's full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have won't have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
