Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It's a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi/low starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants can get baffled. Unlike Hold'em, in which the board can be everyone's hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It's the best hand out of everyone's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same notion in just about every poker game.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don't count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there's no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, after a few rounds you will be able to get the basic subtleties of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an amazing array of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, as well as a few trying for the low. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it's worth your time to play Omaha/8.
