Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants often get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold 'Em, in which the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone's, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical notion in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complex at the start, following a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of play simply enough. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing collection of wagering choices and seeing that you have numerous players shooting for the high hand, as well as many battling for the low hand. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha High-Low.
