Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he's picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
