Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi/lo starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. Another round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player's, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It's the identical approach in just about all poker games.

The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free's up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there's no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem complicated initially, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an exciting array of wagering choices and seeing that you have several individuals trying for the high, along with many battling for the low. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha hi low.
