Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the negative feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
